Welcome to the Groves Literacy blog. My name is John Alexander and I am the Head of School at Groves Academy, Minnesota’s only established school for students with learning disabilities and attention disorders, and a center for literacy instruction, education and advocacy in the Midwest. I have been working with students with reading and language disabilities for twenty-nine years and over the last seventeen years I have headed three schools. I have been involved in policy issues with respect to literacy and teacher preparation. We know what it takes to help students become proficient readers, and we need to better prepare our nation’s teachers in the foundations of language structure to make this a reality.
Groves is a national leader in diagnosing and educating students with learning disabilities and attention disorders. Groves understands all aspects of learning disabilities and attention disorders and we have the tools, knowledge and support needed for success. This unique understanding stems from our 40 years’ experience educating students, and includes the intellectual, social and emotional aspects of learning.
We invite you to explore our website, our day school and the ambitious array of services and programs we offer through Groves Outreach, including community workshops, diagnostic assessments and professional development for educators.
